PORTAL ACADEMY

Present simple: statements, negatives, questions

The present simple helps you discuss routines and facts. Learn one idea in three forms, then use it to describe your day.

Affirmative

Use the base verb with I, you, we, and they. With he, she, and it, add s or es as needed.

I start work at nine.

She starts work at nine.

Negative

Use do not or does not followed by the base verb. Do not add s to the verb after does not.

I don’t work on Saturday.

Question

Start with Do or Does, followed by the subject and base verb. Give a short answer and add a detail if useful.

Does she work online?

Yes, she does. She teaches English online.

Try it yourself
